Red Dwarf – Back to Earth in HD!

August 30, 2009 Andrew Leave a comment

You may have read recently that the Red Dwarf specials that were shown earlier in the year on Dave have been scheduled for a BluRay release in the USA (as well as on Monday here in the UK).

Well, for some of us, the opportunity to see the special in HD has arrived early.  Those of you who have Sky+ HD might like to know that the HD version of the movie length episode (as available so far only on the DVD) is available to watch until Friday on the Anytime service on Sky.  And I have to say it looks and sounds awesome.

More BF News…

Following on from last month’s announcement that Nazi scientist Elisabeth Klein (Tracey Childs) will be joining the Seventh Doctor a season of three audio stories, Big Finish has released news concerning its output of Doctor Who audio adventures in 2010.

“We’re trying something a little different next year,” announces executive producer Nicholas Briggs, “with some surprising combinations of Doctor and companions. So it’s a pleasure that I can announce that Frazer Hines will be reprising the role Jamie McCrimmon, joining the Sixth Doctor for four brand new adventures. Naturally that presents some gargantuan continuity issues to consider, but never fear, we know what we are doing!”

Three of these stories will comprise a season of full-cast between April and June. The fourth will be a tie-in Companion Chronicle story, to be released in May, performed by Hines alongside an as yet unnamed guest star.

Jamie, of course, accompanied the Second Doctor in his travels on TV between 1966-1969, and returned alongside the Second and Sixth Doctors in the Two Doctors.

Oh my good God. How excited am I? (Very)

“Change, my dear. And it seems not a moment too soon.”

Oh yes, Wiles and Tosh have gone, and with them early 60’s Doctor Who. Lloyd and Davis are in, bringing with them the shining, funky swinging Sixties! And Ben and Polly. And getting rid of Dodo (thank f—).

There’s not much else to say really. It’s The War Machines for Bod’s sake!

Watch this and tell me it doesn’t get you excited:

As usual you can get the show from iTunes or download it by clicking here. Join us in two weeks time for ANOTHER Doctor Who. Oh yes… Avast ye landlubbers, its time to fondle me booty (as I believe Beyonce may once have said)…

This news was announced with a fairly low profile at the beginning of July, but we have a few more details available so I’m posting it on here now and barely containing my excitement!

Due for release on October 5th (cheapest price online currently £58.69) is this new boxset from Optimum (who are part of StudioCanal and released The New Avengers DVD box set) of the surviving material from Series 1 and all of Series 2 of The Avengers!

It’s been quite some time since The Avengers has been on DVD in the UK and I am very excited about this. From all accounts this is looking like the first of a complete reissue of everything, only this time with restored episodes and plenty of extras…

- Police Surgeon – Easy Money (surviving episode starring Hendry that is seen as the precursor to The Avengers)

- Filmed introduction to Police Surgeon by Producer Leonard White

- Exclusive newly filmed interview with Honor Blackman

- Exclusive audio commentary by writer Martin Woodhouse on Mr Teddy Bear

- Exclusive audio commentary by Producer Leonard White on The Mauritius Penny

- Exclusive audio commentary by writer Roger Marshall on Death of A Great Dane

- Exclusive audio commentary by actress Julie Stevens on A Chorus of Frogs

- Filmed introductions by actress Julie Stevens

- Insert reprint of original Publicity brochure for the first Honor Blackman season

- Insert reprints of Leonard White scrapbooks featuring telesnaps of lost episodes

- PDF material including original scripts
